Why Do Some People Not Enjoy Watching Sports?

A recent survey revealed that one in fourteen men do not watch any sports, whether it be casually or in the form of office pools or fantasy leagues. Similarly, only seven percent of women didn’t watch any sports during the same time period. Non-sports watchers are further divided by age, with the youngest at eight percent and oldest at eight percent. Non-sports fans also make up nearly 15% of the population.

Some of us do not enjoy watching sports because we have experienced trauma. Perhaps we were exposed to violence or traumatic events in our childhoods. Others may just dislike the sight of bodies being thrown around or the danger that sports can pose. Whatever the reason, it is important to realize that sports are not for everyone. Even those who enjoy watching them do not necessarily love all sports, especially competitive ones. If you do not enjoy the spectacles of the game, you should stop supporting it.

If you are a sports fan, you might be wondering: Why do some people enjoy watching games, while others despise them? For instance, there is the psychological benefit of winning. According to Stephen Reysen, an associate professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce, fans have a fifty percent chance of a good outcome. However, there are some drawbacks to sports viewing. It may be escapist or unhealthy in the long run.
